Elderly, disabled and housebound befriending project.
In February 2005 we initiated a befriending outreach project for elderly, disabled and housebound people living in London.
Our volunteers support this project by providing weekly visits to elderly East Europeans who have become isolated because of illness, disability or social disadvantage.
The results are already very significant.
The befriending project has led to increased self-esteem and self-confidence in our clients. It has reduced the burden on the other services provided by the EEAC, which elderly people used inappropriately, as they simply sought social contact.
EEAC provides information, training and support, to all our volunteers, which encourages the exchange of ideas and experience. To develop good practice all our volunteers are Criminal Records Bureau checked and are covered by insurance.
If you would like to find out more about participating in this project please contact, Magdalena Dykier, 0044 (0)208 741 1288.
The East European Elderly in Hammersmith and Fulham research project.
In August 2005 we carried out a research project into the needs of elderly, disabled and housebound East Europeans living in the borough of Hammersmith and Fulham. The Urban Partnership funded the project.
